Compatibility and Software

 Camera Compatibility (Not software dependent)

PUB should work with any camera that supports USB photo transfer, and has a supporting application to manage the photo transfer on the PC side. Below is a list of Nikon and Canon camera it can support. It is unknown what other manufactures and cameras it can support.

Nikon: D200, D3, D3S, D3x, D300, D300S, D3000, D3100, D40, D60, D700, D7000, D80, and D90.

Canon: 10D, 30D, D60, 300D, 20D, 5D, 7D, 350D, 50D Digital, 7D Digital, 1Ds Mark III, 1D Mark IV, 1D Mark III, 1D Mark III,  5D Mark II,  Rebel T2i, Rebel T1i, Rebel XSi, Rebel XS, Digital Rebel XT, Digital Rebel, Kiss Digital.       Does not support the 60D.

*Note; The above list may have missed a model or models, and may not have been updated for newly released models.

Campatibility Test: The best way to find out if it will work with your camera is to connect a physical USB cable between your computer and your camera. If it works in this configuration, and you can take photos that can be previewed on your computer (assuming you have Tethered Shooting Software installed), then PUB should work with your camera.

Tethered Shooting Software

Tethered shooting software manages the photo transfer from you camera to your computer, and is specific to the camera manufacture.

Nikon:
  • Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 - This is not free; Nikon Charges for it. It sells for $145.95 through Amazon.  Pretty good. It has a very quick preview before the photo has completely downloaded to the computer.
  • TetherPro - It's $49.99. Have yet to try it. Thus not sure how good it is.
  • DIYPhotobits.com Camera Control  - It's Free! It has a viewer, to see your photo upon download. The GUI needs a big of refinement but does the job.
  • DCamCapture - It's Free! This program works well, but the image does not automatically pop up in a viewer, rather it goes into a folder.
Canon
  • EOS DSLR that comes with 'EOS Utility'. Canon offers their EOS utility for free, but does not offer a direct download link. It only comes on the CD that you receive with the camera you purchased. With it installed you may want to install an updater, which is available from their website. Here is link to their download page for the US region.  You have to select your camera model, and then select the OS to view the updater.
  • DSLR Remote Pro - By Breeze Systems and works with most Canon DSLR cameras. This program is excellent! It offers full page viewer and has automatic reconnect if you should lose your USB connection. It's $95, but offers a 15 day trial period.
Both Canon and Nikon
  • Adobe Lightroom. - It is about $199 for a full version. You should check the Nikon, Canon, and Leica cameras it supports.
