PUB2 has migrated to a new form factor with its new enclosure. This permits:
- Better range and performance than previously. Now it can reach 25-30 feet.
- More connection stability and less chance of losing the connection.
- Longer life before batteries need replacement or recharging
- The green LED on the wireless dongle is visible in its original package
- Can
potentially be upgraded, when there is a new wireless USB kit or you
can use other brand beyond Cables Unlimited, such as InFocus, Hama,
Fujitsu, and Olidata.
Below are images of PUB2 showing the inner components.
PUB2 shares the same schematic as PUB1.5. The instruction to build version 1.5 is here.
You
can follow the schematic and figure out what you need from the
instructions in version 1.5 and build your own version of PUB2.
The differentiating factors between constructing the two versions are:
- You need to find a enclosure that will house the USB connectors and PCB*.
- You need to etch your own PCB, but not required. See below *.
- It requires a USB gender changer with female-A and mini male-B ends.
* If
you do not want to etch your own PCB, then you will need to find a way
to secure the connectors to a enclosure and wire everything up with a
solder.
Layout files are now available. Click here or right click (save as) for each: File 1 - Top side. File 2 - Bottom side. Both are in postscript format and require a viewer, such as GhostViewer.
